2022 Summer Reading Program - Oceans of Possibilities: Aquariums and Zoo Partnership

Your first stop for info on planning for Summer 2022

APPLY FOR A FREE VIRTUAL PROGRAM FOR OCEANS OF POSSIBILITIES

Tennessee State Library & Archives is subsidizing more than 30 virtual programs from the Tennessee Aquarium, Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies and the Nashville Zoo for public libraries to present during their 2022 Summer Library Program. Please see the different virtual programs offered below then fill out the application before April 22, 2022 in order to be considered for a program.

Preference will be given to libraries that didn't participate in last year's virtual zoo programs, and libraries that aren't close enough to Gatlinburg, Chattanooga, or Nashville to bring in-person programs to their patrons. However, all applicants will be considered, so please apply!

All virtual programs will be scheduled by the library and the facility they are selected for. The facilities will invoice TSLA rather than the library. There will be no cost to the library for this virtual program.

Virtual programs will be scheduled before June 30 in order to meet invoicing deadlines.

Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies

You may choose from an Aquarium Gallery tour that shows the “Front of the House” of the aquarium or a Behind the Scenes tour. The aquarium gallery tour would highlight many of our popular exhibits whereas the behind the scenes option would explore areas outside of the general public’s view. The aquarium gallery tour would be $100+tax per view and the behind the scenes option would be $125+ tax per view.

Tennessee Aquarium Chattanooga

We are very excited to offer an ocean themed summer outreach program called "Shaping Our Oceans". This program is developed for all grade levels and will be running from June 1st through July 29th. Shaping our Oceans will explore different levels of life within our oceans and our connections with the Gulf of Mexico. Starting with coral reefs, we learn how different animals work together within their ecosystems. We get to know our apex predators and what their presence means. We discuss the importance of limiting the amount of plastic in our oceans even while living 100’s of miles inland and show unique ways to recycle. Discover how we affect our oceans and meet some of our Ambassador animals along the way!
